If you’ve been looking for a way to give back to others that is deeply rewarding as well as flexible enough for your busy lifestyle, helping hospice patients and their families may be just the right opportunity for you. Hospice of the Western Reserve and its affiliate, Hospice of Medina County, are currently offering virtual volunteer training sessions. Those who complete the virtual training will be able to provide in-person visits as soon as Ohio’s Stay at Home order is lifted.
Becoming a hospice volunteer offers many rewards, including:
• An opportunity to give back to your community by paying it forward
• Sharing your talents to improve the quality of life for patients and their families
• Making new friends while connecting with others to provide a valuable service
“Our volunteers contribute to the overall well-being of our community one person, one family at a time, making an impact in countless ways,” said Lisa Scotese Gallagher, Director of Staff Experience. “Volunteering with our agency can be a life-changing experience. From helping with patients and their caregivers to assisting at our Warehouse Sales or Life’s Treasures thrift shop to sharing a professional skill, volunteer opportunities are only limited by a person’s imagination. We’ll work with you to create a customized volunteer experience that lets you share your special passion and bring it to life to help others.”
Many volunteers enjoy crocheting lap blankets or making comfort pillows for patients. Others take great pleasure in providing companionship or sharing the gifts of music and art. Often, volunteers are able to relieve the family’s stress by running a few errands or helping out with a few of the tasks of daily living.
