We are back full swing seeing patients in our office! While we all settle into our new routines and procedures, I’d like to assure you that patient care and safety still take top priority at our office. We may have a few extra steps and a little more gear to wear, but it’s the same friendly professionals behind the masks meeting your dental needs!
Since many of us are spending extra time at home with our families this summer, here are some tips in case your children run into any dental emergencies. Please also call your dentist immediately if any of the following occur!
• If a tooth has been knocked out, find the tooth and rinse it with only water. If you can, place the tooth back into the socket by only touching the crown of the tooth. If not, place the tooth in a container with milk.
• If a tooth is loose, chipped, or broken, have your child rinse with warm water and use an ice pack to reduce swelling.
• If your child has a toothache, have him or her rinse with warm water and check to see that there’s nothing stuck in between the teeth. Use an ice pack and supply oral pain relievers. Do not apply any heat or topical pain relievers.
• If your child bites their lip or tongue severe enough to cause bleeding, clean the area with water and use a cold, wet washcloth pressed firmly against the area to reduce swelling.
Don’t forget! Children active in contact sports should wear a mouth guard. Even if it’s just for fun around the neighborhood, a mouth guard can help prevent broken or lost teeth!
The practice consists of two dentists, Dr. Shannon Burton and Dr. Alex McIlvaine, who are both Wadsworth natives. After attending Wadsworth High School, Dr. Shannon attended The Ohio State University and Dr. Alex attended the University of Kentucky. Dr. Alex lives in town with this wife, Lori, and three children. He is active in the town’s Lions Club, Salvation Army, and Wadsworth Main Street. Dr. Shannon lives in town with her husband, Nick, and is an active chamber member, Akron Dental Society Council member, and Ohio Dental Association Delegate. They are both very happy and proud to be helping and serving the community that helped shape them.
