After more than two years, delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic, McGregor is breaking ground on Independent Living affordable apartments on the McGregor 45-acre campus headquartered in East Cleveland.
Two years ago, we announced that McGregor was one of four organizations in Ohio to be awarded a $3 Million HUD 202 grant to build and renovate a total of 80 new units of affordable apartments on campus.
Leadership worked with one of our partners, CHN Housing Partners to secure $15.5 Million in tax credits through Ohio Housing Finance Agency, $500,000 of Federal Home Loan Funds, $550,000 in Home Funds from Cuyahoga County and East Cleveland, $2,050,000 in grant funding from the Weinberg Foundation and Sewer District along with McGregor’s $3 Million investment to bring the project to fruition.
Construction began on March 1 with the general contract, JGJ Construction. The renovation is expected to be completed by September 2022 in the existing Independent Living and the new construction scheduled for completion in Summer 2023.
For the first time since 2011, a grant such as this one has been awarded to an organization like McGregor for aging and elderly services, providing additional resource. This grant will allow McGregor to leverage its partnerships to offer more affordable housing choices to seniors in our community.
