Many people engage in Spring cleaning their homes to clear out the old and stale. There’s nothing like a fresh start. And, there’s value in doing the same in your business. Take a look at your clients, lost prospects, and vendors.
Clients
There is value in reviewing your clients to ensure they are the right fit – and you for them. Sometimes business owners gain business that turns out to be challenging. You owe it to your good clients, your staff, and yourself to let go of clients that aren’t serving your company. Those challenging clients are keeping you from gaining more good clients. And, they are negatively impacting everyone involved. It’s a lose-lose situation. So when you end your relationship with them you are actually elevating your company. You are doing them a favor as well. They deserve a provider that fits them.
Lost Prospects
At the same time, revisit lost prospects. The reason they didn’t buy from you may no longer exist. Until they go out of business or pass away, there is still the possibility that you can provide a solution. Don’t rely on the belief that if they need something they know where you are. Not necessarily. It’s not their job to let you sell to them. It’s your responsibility to be curious about them.
Vendors
It’s easy to become complacent with the vendors you use. Believing they are still the best solution for you is the path of least resistance. After all, there are other, more pressing issues to tackle. Maybe. However, you have a duty to your business to review your current providers and ensure they are providing you with the best service and pricing. It doesn’t mean you will end your relationship with them. It does mean you can have a conversation with them about your current needs so together you can determine if they are still the best resource.
Businesses change constantly. The solutions you provide may evolve at the same time your clients and prospects needs are evolving. The same is true for the vendors you use. It is better to plan a review so you are sure to engage in the discovery. There’s no telling what you might find out. Your business will be better. As a consequence, your value will increase for your clients, and your staff.
So, as we spring forward, set aside some time to evaluate everything inside your business in the same way you would in your home. Open the “windows” and let in some fresh air! Oh, and if you have employees, work with them to uncover opportunities for improvement. They most likely have ideas you wouldn’t consider.
