Too much stress can negatively affect multiple areas of your body, and your teeth could be one of those! When people experience high levels of stress, they often clench or grind their teeth. This is called “bruxism,” and it can cause symptoms such as broken or sore teeth, sore jaw and neck muscles, tension headaches and migraines, and TMJ disorder.
At McIlvaine Dentistry, we have a variety of ways to help treat bruxism. Upon examination, we can offer different bite guards or retainers that can be worn day or night to help relieve tension on the teeth and muscles. We also discuss jaw exercises and examine how the teeth are coming together to see if adjustments are needed. Another excellent service we offer for bruxism is Botox. Botox works within the muscles, so they are not able to clench as hard when stressed, while also creating a slimming appearance of the face. Patients often receive botox in the jaw muscles at the same time they are treating their esthetic concerns!
We also strive to create less stress, creating a friendly and relaxed environment to feel at ease while we listen to their concerns and create individualized solutions. Some of those solutions include nitrous oxide and needle/anesthetic free fillings with our Soleal Laser. Patient care is our number one priority and providing the highest standard of dental care!
