What began as a hobby less than two months ago, for two strangers, in two separate Ohio towns, has ultimately brought together two strong women, united for one cause – vaccinate Ohio.
Stay-at-home moms Marla Zwinggi and Stacey Bene both began booking appointments for extended family members to receive their Covd-19 vaccinations in February. Pretty soon, one appointment became five appointments. Five appointments became fifty. When Marla hit 200+ bookings, local media outlets started to take notice. This was the point when Stacey reached out to Marla. The women connected via Zoom and The Vaccine Queens were born. To date, the duo has booked more than 1,500 Ohioans for their vaccinations.
The Vaccine Queens have made a national appearance on NBC’s Today Show, received coverage in Reader’s Digest, and appeared on the front page of The Plain Dealer. As their influence grew in the quest to get Ohioans vaccinated, Governor Mike DeWine even sent them hand-written thank you letters for their efforts.
Stacey and Marla have made it their mission to assist the elderly population in particular. Those unable to access computers or cell phones are often frustrated with the roll out and need assistance. The Vaccine Queens have been there for them throughout the entire process. Discount Drug Mart has partnered with Stacey and Marla to help them place many individuals who would otherwise still be looking for a vaccine. Giant Eagle has also played a major role in the women’s success by providing a simple website registration process.
The women feel that they were called to duty. The process has been truly life-changing and something they will never forget.
